Ruin Your Health With the Obama Stimulus Plan?

Betsy McCaughey discusses some of the Health Care Provisions in HR 1 in a piece on Bloomberg.com. She details a number of provisions that the Stimulus plan includes that are simply madness. Try this on for size:

One new bureaucracy, the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology, will monitor treatments to make sure your doctor is doing what the federal government deems appropriate and cost effective.

or this:

The stimulus bill does that, and calls it the Federal Coordinating Council for Comparative Effectiveness Research (190-192). The goal, Daschle’s book explained, is to slow the development and use of new medications and technologies because they are driving up costs. He praises Europeans for being more willing to accept “hopeless diagnoses” and “forgo experimental treatments,” and he chastises Americans for expecting too much from the health-care system.

I think this is true to a certain extent. We, as a group, tend to expect that the health care providers can save us from everything. In the end, we’re all going to die from something. As I heard the other night, the leading cause of death is birth.

With that being said, if someone has the financial ability to pursue other avenues in search of a cure for whatever their ailment, they have every right to do so. Americans are known for being inventive and finding the answers, and you can’t do that without experimentation.
