If you’ve been reading this site, you know HB 89 is an important reform to Georgia’s gun laws. It was passed by a landslide in the state House and Senate, but yesterday Governor Sonny Purdue voiced his “concern” over it in a press conference. He’s getting a lot of pressure from the restaurant and hospitality industry. Note that this bill allows a concealed carry permit holder to have a concealed weapon in a restaurant that serves alcohol, but not a bar (i.e. serves more than 50% alcohol), but it doesn’t allow one to drink while carrying. The restaurant lobby is inexplicably worried that the folks who are currently obeying the law not to carry in those places will suddenly start breaking the law against drinking while carrying?! The law has many other beneficial effects besides not limiting you to fast food when you have your gun.
Please call, write, and email the Governor’s office and urge him to sign this bill. Be polite, precise, and succinct. Pass this on to any other gun friendly folks you know.
