Some of you may be familiar with the Guedelon project, but I certainly wasn’t and came upon an interesting article on it today. The basic gist is that craftsmen are working on the construction of a historically accurate medieval castle using only 13th century techniques. The project is ongoing in the forests of Burgundy having begun in 1997. It’s proved to be quite a tourist draw and if you’re heading to France anytime in the next 20 years you can still catch the action as the project is slated to continue until 2023.

I read Michael Crichton’s Timeline at the beach in July, and part of the story centered around a project just like that. But since the book was clearly fiction, it never occured to me that they were really doing it. Cool!
