Scorpion Venom On The Brain

Scientists are using synthetic scorpion venom to deliver localized radiation therapy for treatment of recurrent malignant brain tumors. Since the synthetic protein binds to a specific type of receptor that appears on the surface of malignant tumor cells, it can be used to deliver very small amounts of radioactive iodine to the tumor with minimal effect on surrounding healthy tissue.
