Cancer researcher by day, animal rights activist by night

Joseph Harris, a molecular biologist working on pancreatic cancer research at Queen’s Medical Center in Nottingham, UK was sentenced to 3 years in prison yesterday for his role as an animal rights saboteur. Harris carried out various acts of vandalism and violence against companies linked to the animal testing laboratory, Huntingdon Life Sciences. Apparently Dr. Harris was facing an “…increasing moral dilemma” regarding his research and mounting pressure by his now ex-girlfriend who dumped him because she “disappproved of his continued work in the field of medical research.” Harris is the first to be convicted under new legislation aimed at animal rights activists and related economic sabotage.
