A View From the Top

MSNBC has an op-ed piece up by Michael Gerson, former speech writer and policy advisor to President Bush. Mr Gershon discusses the realities of the global conflict we are engaged in and the necessity of bearing the burden that Americans seem to be ready to unload. Here is a quote from his summary:

But necessity, in the end, makes a stronger argument than the finest rhetoric. And from London to Lebanon, history is proving that peace is not a natural state; it is achieved by a struggle of uncertain duration. In that struggle, the cynical, the world-weary, the risk-averse will not inherit the earth.
